Steve – Supports The Long Walk 2021, Faro de Maspalomas – Gáldar, over the highest peak on Gran Canaria… #WeCrossMountains
Please support Steve´s epic efforts to keep us alive for all three days of The Long Walk!
Mister Steve Cashley is an active member of the English speaking community on the south of Gran Canaria. An IT business man and tech guru he supplies and fixes a range of types of connectivity for customers across the island, focused particularly on TV and Internet.
Steve spends much of what spare time he has also supporting various other organisations and community groups, not just financially but by always lending a hand when able and assisting in the transport of donations including furniture and other large items in support of The Food Project and various animal rescue organisations.
Since the very first long walk Steve has been an active supporter of our activities, and for the last 7 years has always walked with us on the last day for the final 20km or so of The Long Walk. This year once again he has agreed to drive our support vehicle for all three days, and so will be sent off into the mountains with a van full of luggage and water and medical supplies to become our vital link between various waypoints keeping us safe and hydrated, and acting as first responder should any of us run into difficulties.
The Long Walk – Gran Canaria aims to show that no matter the size of the challenge ahead of us, by working together, one step at a time, we can all cross mountains. #WeCrossMountains
We raise funds and awareness to assist families, groups and individuals on Gran Canaria facing potentially terminal illnesses, like Canarian Breast Cancer Association ACCM (Asociación Canaria de Cáncer de Mama y Ginecológico), environmental organisations helping to protect our island, such as Fundación FORESTA, and those dealing directly with poverty in our community, such as https://TheFoodProject.es Proyecto Vecinal de Alimentos de Mogán Nabohjelpen among others.
The Long Walk 2021 will start Day 1 by the famous Faro de Maspalomas lighthouse, and head north along The Pilgrims’ Way, the only officially recognised stretch of the Camino de Santiago (Ruta Jacobea) outside of mainland Europe. We will travel from the Dunes of Maspalomas, up through the Fataga valley to Tunte, where we will stay the night, and on Day 2 complete our ascent with a traditional toast at the highest summit on the island following a small detour from the trail, up to Pico de Las Nieves. Walking across Las Cumbres (The Summits) stopping another night at Cruz de Tejeda. Day 3 will begin with a visit to The Long Walk Woodland Reserve, before our descent, through the northern mountain pine forests, into the ancient pre-hispanic island capital, the royal city of Gáldar, and end on the north coast around sunset.
“This year, once again, I have been asked to drive the support vehicle over the three days being in attendance in case of accident or injury and meeting with the walkers to supply food and water en route.
I will also be ferrying their belongings to the two overnight stay locations, and supporting their efforts throughout, every step of the way
I have lost both parents and far too many friends and family members to cancer, so I am happy to what I can to help. Please donate “
