A little something goes a very long way to help our local community and those most in need, even if you can’t be here in person, we know we will see you soon, and we are grateful for your support.

And let others know.  Gran Canaria keeps going.

It’s almost that time of year again, when THE PUB joins forces with The Long Walk to raise money for local Women & Families, Fighters & Survivors on Gran Canaria.  Directly supporting well-established, grass roots charities such as the Canarian Breast Cancer Association ACCMyG who assist women and families overcoming Breast Cancer and also Proyecto Vecinal de Alimentos, The Food Project based in Arguineguin, who act as a vital lifeline to low income and poverty stricken local families, ensuring food on the table for hundreds of people every week without fail and without state funding.

The Long Walk Woodland Reserve was inaugurated last year, planting trees and protecting the ancient pines at the summits, in collaboration with Fundación Foresta, following the devastating wildfires of 2017 & 2019

This will be our 5th consecutive year helping these great causes and we are absolutely delighted to be part of it.

This year we will be focusing all our efforts on The Long Walk X and our idea is to, whilst fully respecting ALL current Covid guidelines, welcome everyone for a coffee and cake, or indeed something savoury or a little stronger, with all proceeds going towards the cause.

The Long Walk – Gran Canaria aims to show that no matter the size of the challenge ahead of us, by working together, one step at a time, we can all cross mountains. #WeCrossMountains

We raise funds and awareness to assist families, groups and individuals on Gran Canaria facing potentially terminal illnesses, like Canarian Breast Cancer Association ACCM (Asociación Canaria de Cáncer de Mama y Ginecológico), environmental organisations helping to protect our island, such as Fundación FORESTA, and those dealing directly with poverty in our community, such as Proyecto Vecinal de Alimentos de Mogán Nabohjelpen among others.

The Long Walk 2021 will start Day 1 by the famous Faro de Maspalomas lighthouse, and head north along The Pilgrims’ Way, the only officially recognised stretch of the Camino de Santiago (Ruta Jacobea) outside of mainland Europe. We will travel from the Dunes of Maspalomas, up through the Fataga valley to Tunte, where we will stay the night, and on Day 2 complete our ascent with a traditional toast at the highest summit on the island following a small detour from the trail, up to Pico de Las Nieves. Walking across Las Cumbres (The Summits) stopping another night at Cruz de Tejeda. Day 3 will begin with a visit to The Long Walk Woodland Reserve, before our descent, through the northern mountain pine forests, into the ancient pre-hispanic island capital, the royal city of Gáldar, and end on the north coast around sunset.

The Pub will offer a raffle with many amazing prizes and tickets on sale soon.

We know this year has been particularly hard for everyone, so any contribution, however small, really will make a difference, if you can come along and make a donation please do, if not you can simply make a donation on this page.

Celebrating Women, Fighters & Survivors, & Families in Need

The Pub, fase IV, behind Shopping Centre Puerto Rico will be open to support the first day of The Long Walk and celebrate.  PuertoRicoWalk may be postponed until we can all gather together again, but you can still pledge your support and still buy a t-shirt, or make a direct donation here.

Will you walk the walk? Even if we can’t all walk together, we can all walk, where ever we are and Celebrate Women, Fighters, Survivors & Families in Need

The Pub and her patrons, raise funds every year in the run up to International Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October), with every penny raised this year going to benefit Women, Fighters, Survivors & Families with donations to both the ACCM Canarian Breast Cancer Association and the Mogán Neighbours Food Project (Nabojhelpen) who support the most vulnerable in our local community.
