Please support Wild Jose’s epic 3-day, coast-to-coast hiking challenge across Gran Canaria to help The Food Project in the south.
Every donation here helps over one hundred local families in real need. The Food Project receives no funding from the local government, so it must rent its community facilities using donations and small grants from the Island Council. They are supported by the Las Palmas Food Bank, but they survive thanks to your generosity.
The volunteer-led project is a vital support for over 300 people each week. They do much more than simply feed the hungry: they act as a vital community hub, coordinating donations of food, clothing, shoes, furniture, and even mobility scooters. They also provide a qualified social worker who guides each person in their life plans… and much more. Here’s a brief overview of their spending…
€ 10 helps them access a social worker who can help them find work, training, education and additional support.
€ 30 supplements a family of 3 people for a week with fresh products.
€ 50 helps buy shoes and clothes for children going back to school.
€ 100 is enough to arrange a computer for families without access to technology, or pay for transport costs to move furniture, or a variety of other much-needed aid, all provided by the Food Project.
€ 500 buys milk, potatoes, juice and fresh vegetables for a week to supplement the rice and pasta, etc. provided by the Food Bank in Las Palmas.
€ 1000 helps pay for a part-time social worker to directly assist individuals and families who do not have access to legal advice or ways to escape extreme poverty.
€ 2000 pays the rent for the building for one month.
