The Day One Challenge –

This year, our journey begins at La Restinga, located at the mouth of the historic Barranco de Telde, at sunrise. After our traditional sunrise family photo — connecting our first steps with the mission of The Food Project — we head inland up through one of the most historic agricultural and spiritual valleys on the island.
Our path takes us past the seat of the Faycanes, pre-hispanic high priests of the Guanche Canarios, between Telde's old colonial settlements of San Antonio, San Juan and San Francisco, via El Mayorazgo once a deeply spiritual indigenous community subsisted, whote culture is thought to have idolised fertility, and we follow the legacy of colonial sugar plantations, water sources and courses, citrus and bananas that defined this region following the conquest. We trek past ancient estates, sacred sites and through the heart of the valley’s rich heritage.
We begin our primary ascent, climbing to traverse a spectacular ridge overlooking the the lands of the first economic engine supporting colonial Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This breathtaking climb offers panoramic views across the north and east, before we make our a short descent into the midland agricultural heartlands of San Mateo. Still today one of the most vibrant weekend market towns on the island, San Mateo marks our triumphant completion of The Day One Challenge.

Day two goes Over The Top, a climb from San Mateo into the untamed woodland wilderness of the summits. We ascend to the roof of the island, crossing Pico de Las Nieves (1,946m)—the highest point on Gran Canaria—for our traditional toast to the Goddesses of these legendary peaks, the islands feminine spirit.
After taking in unparalleled views across the prehistoric volcanic landscapes, we traverse the high ridges before descending into the Chira Valley, spending the night at the Caserio de Araña where walkers can rest and reflect on the summit they have just conquered.

Descent and Endurance –
From the Mountains to the Sea

– 30km – 900m
Our final and longest day, we complete the Coast-to-Coast link, descending from the heights of Chira crossing the backs of the rugged and beautiful Barranco de Arguineguín. Where supporters may join us for The Last Leg (a 20km half-day walk) in solidarity with our mission to reach the sunny southwest.
The Last Mile is an opportunity for supporters to join us and add to our numbers before we reach the sea.
Our journey concludes in the picturesque heart of Puerto de Mogán, where supporters can join us for #TheLastMile, finishing at the famous marina (our “Little Venice”) in a setting that feels a world away from where we began.

If you can't join us for one day, the weekend or the whole 3-day walk, come along for The Last Leg, a half day walk to the finish line. From the mountains to the sea.
We will be walking from the caves of Guayadeque to the coastal town of El Burrero. 25€ covers your insurance, gives you the opportunity to spur on The Long Walkers as they get ever closer to their goal and you even get an exclusive Long Walk t-shirt.
What's more is you will be able to add to our total simply by asking people to donate on the basis that you will be walking 16km of trails with an epic team of adventurers to the east coast, ending a three day coast-to-coast adventure.
The Last Mile
Join us for the last mile to the finish line, joining with The Long Walkers, the Last Leg Cheerleaders, and anyone else who wants to join us for our moment of Triumph, our 12th anniversary walking coast-to-coast for Women & Families, Fighters & Survivors on Gran Canaria
The Big Picture
Our final act of the event, down by the ancient archaeological site and the Ingenio coast, one last image of solidarity, joining everyone together in a photograph of defiance against adversity,

Since our first fundraising event, at Sioux City in 2011 we have helped raise well over €150,000 for local charities, having started with our local Canarian breast cancer association we have gone on to make large donations to The Food Project in Mogán (Proyecto Vecinal de Alimentos de Mogán), and Fundación Foresta, planting trees, including for our own little woodland reserve at the top of the island.
